Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) Chairman K Naganna Gowda visited the house of Sowjanya, who was murdered in 2012, at Pangala in Belthangady taluk on Monday.
After interacting with her parents, Naganna Gowda visited the spot where Sowjanya’s body was found. He said that he will stand on behalf of the family that faced injustice.
The Commission will take all necessary action as per law. After collecting all the details, I will bring the issue to the notice of the State Government and Chief Minister. We will also look into the possibility of providing a Government job to one of the family member of the victim, he said.
Later, he visited the house of a child abuse case survivor in Vittal. The KSCPCR Chairman also chaired meetings in Belthangady and Mangaluru
At a meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Naganna Gowda insisted that awareness needs to be created to make the district free from drugs. He directed officials to be cautious against instances of sexual assault against children.
Officials should take measures to prevent sexual assaults and atrocities against children. The Karnataka State Child Protection Policy should be implemented in all educational institutions and hostels. In addition to awareness programmes, initiatives should also be taken to offer counselling for children who are addicted to drug abuse, he added.
Deputy Commissioner MP Mullai Muhilan, Zilla Panchayat CEO K Anand, Additional Deputy Commissioner Santhosh Kumar, SP CB Ryshyanth and Women and Child Development Department Deputy Director Papa Bovi were present.
