In a strategic move to bolster its revenue streams and enhance cargo services, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced the addition of 10 new trucks to its fleet. This expansion marks a significant step forward for the corporation, aiming to fortify its cargo division and amplify its parcel and courier offerings. The KSRTC’s visionary plan entails the incorporation of 10 trucks, each with a hefty 6-tonne capacity, into their cargo division. This expansion isn’t merely a numerical increment but a part of the corporation’s larger strategy to uplift their cargo services to new heights. The intention is to further streamline and strengthen their logistics capabilities. Addressing the move, officials have clarified that this will be a phased addition of 10 trucks initially, with the possibility of introducing another 10 at a later stage. The decision is notably inspired by the need to diversify revenue sources, especially in the aftermath of significant financial setbacks suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic. The renewed focus on parcel and courier services has proven to be a lucrative avenue for KSRTC. Observing a remarkable threefold increase in revenue on a year-on-year basis, the corporation anticipates the income from these services to reach a notable sum of 10 crore rupees by the end of 2022. While many corporations traditionally rely on passenger buses for parcel transportation, KSRTC recognizes the limitations imposed by weight restrictions. To address this, they have devised a comprehensive solution by introducing 10 fully-equipped trucks with a 6-tonne capacity. The expected timeline for the service to become operational is by the end of the current year, post the completion of the tender process. Looking ahead, plans are in place to introduce an additional 10 trucks in the following year, further strengthening the corporation’s cargo capabilities.
