The Karnataka state government, late on Friday night, published the draft list of new wards based on the 2011 population census. This significant move, outlined in the Karnataka Special State Gazette, seeks to ensure transparency and public participation in the ward reallocation process. The government has extended an open invitation to both individuals and organizations to provide objections or suggestions. Included in the list are names of newly proposed wards such as Puneeth Rajkumar, Garebhavipalya, Mangammanapalya, New Road, Munnekolla, and Belathur. These names have been made accessible to the public on the corporation’s official website, facilitating easy access for concerned citizens. The current development follows a series of changes aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency. In the previous period, the number of wards under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) increased from 198 to 243, a shift that was met with opposition and legal challenges. As a result, the High Court directed the state government to review and rectify discrepancies in the ward redistribution report. To address these concerns, a committee was formed, chaired by the Chief Commissioner of BBMP, to oversee the process of re-allocating wards. Simultaneously, a notification was issued, outlining the re-distribution of the 243 wards into 225. The officials meticulously compiled a draft list of these 225 wards, which has now been officially released by the government. The public has been granted a 15-day window to submit objections regarding the draft list. Those wishing to express their concerns about specific wards can approach the Deputy Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department. The submission of objections and suggestions is to be directed to Room No. 436, 4th Floor, Vikasasoudha, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Veedi, Bangalore: 560001.
