A young woman’s desperate attempt to end her life by consuming juice laced with rat poison has prompted the arrest of her boyfriend, unraveling a sequence of events marked by broken promises and heartbreak. The victim of this ordeal, identified as Priya (name changed), hails from Davangere. The police took swift action to apprehend Harsh Vardhan, a quality analyst and Priya’s boyfriend, on August 14 in connection with the suicide attempt. Priya worked as a customer service representative at a private company, where Harshvardhan also held the role of a quality analyst. Their relationship began innocently as friendship when they were introduced in October 2022, eventually blossoming into a romantic involvement. However, the trajectory of their relationship took a disturbing turn. What initially appeared to be love turned out to be a series of betrayals. Harshvardhan, who initially expressed intentions to marry Priya, shifted his stance as their relationship evolved physically. When Priya became pregnant, he abandoned his commitment to marriage and compelled her to undergo an abortion. Adding further anguish, he refused to wed her, despite Priya’s efforts, including communication with Harshvardhan’s parents. In a bold move, Priya filed a police complaint against Harshvardhan on July 19, leading to a case being registered against him under sections of the Indian Penal Code. Harshvardhan went into hiding following the complaint, only to be tracked down by the police on August 14. Hopeful that the situation could be rectified, Priya approached the police station, wishing that Harshvardhan would finally agree to marry her. However, history repeated itself, as he once again declined to honor his commitment in the presence of law enforcement. Devastated by yet another betrayal, Priya resorted to a drastic measure.
