The government has made preparations to launch the state-wide Gruha Lakshmi Yojane officially on August 27, in the city,  the home district of Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. There are 11.9 lakh women heading families in the district to benefit from the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. However, so far, only 82 percent of women have registered for the scheme. The remaining 2.2 lakh are waiting for registration and approval. About 1.4 lakh are likely to miss out on the benefits of the scheme in the first month.

According to the officials of the Women and Child Development Ministry, out of 1.3 crore Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries in the state, about 10 percent of the beneficiaries are in the district. The government has announced that Rs 2,000 will be directly deposited to the bank accounts of the registered beneficiaries every month after August 16. Those who are eligible will get the said amount every month in their accounts.
All women heads of the family in the state having APL or BPL ration cards and those who are within the prescribed income limit are eligible for the scheme. The Congress had initially announced that all women heads of families would benefit from the scheme. But when looking at the hurdles in the implementation of the project, 81.6 percent of the target has been achieved so far. Another 2.2 lakh women are waiting for their turn to become Gruha Lakshmis. More than 10 lakh eligible women have registered for the Gruha Lakshmi Yojane in the district, but so far, the women and child welfare department has approved 9.7 lakh applications. Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar had already announced that 11.9 lakh Gruha Lakshmis in the district will get the scheme’s benefit.
