In a surprising turn of events, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Contractors’ Association has retracted its earlier ‘commission’ allegations against Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The association clarified that no such allegations were made and that their primary focus remains on addressing their pending bills. BBMP Contractors’ Association president KT Manjunath emphasized that their intent was not to level allegations but to demand the clearance of their outstanding dues. He acknowledged that certain members may have expressed emotional statements, but their objective remains resolute – ensuring payment for the services rendered. Manjunath attributed the controversy to intermediaries who injected a political dimension into the matter, emphasizing that their actions were not influenced by any external pressure. He conveyed the association’s intention to seek Deputy CM Shivakumar’s guidance and communicate their concerns. They also plan to set a deadline for bill clearance and prepare for a protest if necessary. Regarding the Karnataka State Contractors’ Association president D Kempanna’s assertion that they were not associated with the issue, Manjunath stated that Kempanna had agreed to support their cause. Moreover, a contractor named Hemant, who had openly accused Shivakumar of corruption, has retracted his allegations and issued an apology to the Deputy CM. The BBMP contractors also expressed their objection to the formation of four probe teams by the government to investigate the works carried out in the corporation during the BJP’s administration. Last week, the BBMP Contractors’ Association had written a letter to the Governor, alleging 10 to 15 per cent commission against DK Shivakumar.
