EDMONTON
Miyu Yamashita produced a remarkable performance, matching the LPGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record while winning the CPKC Women’s Open by nine strokes at Royal Mayfair.
The Japanese golfer finished with a four-under 66, including a birdie putt on the 18th hole, to reach 23 under par with a total of 257. She matched Sei Young Kim’s LPGA record, set in 2018. Yamashita also broke the tournament record of 262.
Yamashita controlled the competition from the opening round, when she shot a course-record 62. She followed with rounds of 64 and 65, building a six-stroke advantage before the final round. Her victory became a wire-to-wire triumph on a course affected by unusually heavy summer rain and mosquitoes.
Yuri Yoshida finished second at 14 under after a final-round 69, while Kim was another stroke behind. Seventeen-year-old Canadian Anna Huang impressed with a 65 to finish tied for fourth at 12 under. Sixteen-year-old amateur Aphrodite Deng tied for seventh at 11 under.
The victory marked Yamashita’s fourth LPGA Tour title, with her wins coming in four countries. She previously won the Meijer LPGA Classic this June and collected titles in Wales and Malaysia last season. She also has 13 victories on the Japan LPGA Tour. Her latest success further establishes her as one of the rising stars of women’s golf, with her record-setting consistency making the Edmonton triumph especially memorable.
