Karnataka’s draft voter list has been published after the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision, showing 4.46 crore voters in the state.
The list includes more women than men, with 2.24 crore female voters and 2.21 crore male voters. The total number of registered voters before the revision was 5.54 crore.
More than 1.07 crore names have been kept out of the draft list under categories covering absent, displaced, deceased and suspected duplicate voters. Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar said 43.81 lakh voters will receive notices because their details were either not mapped or differed from information in their enumeration forms.
The notices will mention the date, time and place of a hearing. Affected voters must appear before the Electoral Registration Officer with the required documents. Their details will be checked before names are considered for inclusion in the final roll. Voters who miss the first hearing may receive another date, but officials said there will be no third opportunity.
Bengaluru accounts for more than 24 lakh of the voters receiving notices. The highest number is in Bengaluru City, followed by Bengaluru North, Bengaluru Central and Bengaluru South. Voters who believe their names were wrongly removed can also appeal against an order through the district and state election authorities.
Officials said 3.70 lakh young voters aged 18 and 19 are included in the draft, while more than 83 lakh voters are aged between 20 and 29. Around 14.67 lakh applications have also been received for new registrations and corrections. The claims and objections process will continue before the final electoral roll is prepared. Voters have been urged to check their details carefully and submit documents within the permitted period.
