Students must lead the charge against illegal substance abuse and protect the nation’s future, according to local leaders who gathered for a massive public safety campaign.
Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar presided over a large anti-drug rally and conference under the banner of the “Addiction-Free Mandya” initiative. Jointly organized by the district administration, police department, and education sector, the event brought together hundreds of citizens, teachers, and young learners.
To tackle drug peddling near campuses, MLA Ravikumar announced a bold new reporting system. He urged students to act as “Student CID” agents and immediately dial the emergency number 112 if they spot illegal sales or ganja near schools. Informants who provide solid tips will receive a cash reward of twenty-five thousand rupees, and their identities will remain completely confidential.
Earlier in the day, leaders including MLA Ravikumar, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar, and Superintendent of Police Dr. V.J. Shobharani flagged off a massive awareness march from Government Women’s College to the Visvesvaraya Stadium. Participants carried banners and chanted slogans through the main streets to educate the public on the dangers of narcotics.
During the conference, SP Shobharani introduced the “Operation RISE” framework to help make the state addiction-free. The acronym encourages youth to Refuse drugs, Inform the police, Support the campaign, and Empower their peers. She also noted that citizens can safely share tips using a dedicated mobile app section.
Legal authorities and civic officials praised the strong turnout. SP Shobharani administered a formal anti-drug oath to the attending students, followed by cultural performances, pamphlet distributions, and a signature drive supported by Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini and other prominent leaders.
