The newly released romantic entertainer Hrudhayam Murali hit theaters, striking a positive chord with the audience. Directed by Aakash Baskaran, the movie offers a refreshing and decent blend of lighthearted comedy mixed with heavy emotional moments, scoring a respectable three out of five rating from film critics.
The story revolves around Hrudhay, a painfully shy individual who struggles to express his romantic feelings. During his teenage years, his reserved nature prevents him from confessing his love to Samantha. Later, a similar pattern repeats when Aamudha enters his life. The core narrative follows how a reserved person navigates love, moving forward as previous relationships slowly turn into bittersweet memories.
Lead actor Atharvaa delivers a stellar performance, executing both comedic timing and intense emotional variations with ease. His body language perfectly fits the character’s growth across different life stages. Kayadu Lohar handles her emotionally demanding scenes flawlessly, while Preity Mukhundhan shines in the romantic tracks. A major asset to the film is a brilliant cameo by Fahadh Faasil, alongside music director Thaman S, who effectively portrays the hero’s loyal friend.
However, the film suffers from some minor flaws. While the characters are written beautifully, the screenplay tends to drag in the second half, stretching the ultimate climax unnecessarily. Additionally, critics noted that the bond between Atharvaa and the main female lead required a much stronger foundation, occasionally undercutting the emotional impact of the colorful visuals.
On the technical side, the romantic drama stands strong. Directors of photography Manoj Paramahamsa and CH Sai deliver exceptionally rich, beautiful visuals. Thaman S provides an excellent background score and an adorable main theme song that elevates the film’s tone. Backed by solid production values, Hrudhayam Murali successfully conveys the struggles of unexpressed love. Despite a slightly routine narrative path in the later half, the movie remains an entertaining watch, making it a worthy choice for dedicated fans of the rom-com genre.
