Alonso slams new Formula 1 rules as “Boring”

Fernando Alonso criticized the new 2026 Formula One regulations, claiming battery-boosted overtaking requires absolutely zero driver talent.

Racing legend Fernando Alonso has blasted the new 2026 Formula One rules, claiming that overtaking now requires absolutely zero driver talent.

The double world champion expressed his frustration after a tough weekend at Silverstone. He argues that new rules, which split car power between electricity and gas, make racing feel fake. Drivers are calling it “yo-yo” racing because cars constantly swap places on straight tracks just by using battery boosts. Critics even compare the current state of the sport to a video game.

“You just press one button and pass,” Alonso said. He explained that drivers no longer need to take risks or outbrake rivals. Without battery power, these advanced cars actually feel slower than junior Formula Two cars.

Alonso’s anger also comes from his team’s terrible season. Aston Martin has not scored a single point in nine races. To make matters worse, the 44-year-old star has been outqualified by his teammate, Lance Stroll, and recently finished a disappointing 18th.

Former teammate Giancarlo Fisichella believes Alonso is facing the worst moment of his long career. Stuck at the back of the grid, the Spanish driver is desperately lacking motivation.

The team hopes a major car upgrade at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix will turn things around. However, with the next race in Belgium posing the exact same battery issues, Alonso faces another steep uphill battle. Fans are left wondering if the racing icon can find his joy in the sport again.
