CG SEMI begins commercial semiconductor production

NEW DELHI

India has officially entered a new semiconductor era with CG SEMI’s advanced plant starting commercial production in Sanand, Gujarat. This Rs 7,600 crore facility, built alongside Japan’s Renesas Electronics, is the country’s third active microchip unit of 2026. Taking just 27 months from groundbreaking to manufacturing, the plant stands as a massive win for national self-reliance. Its high-tech chips will power automobiles and industrial machinery locally while boosting exports globally. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw proudly highlighted that the facility drives major social change, employing highly trained young women from across various Indian states.
