The ongoing re-verification exercise of beneficiaries under the state government’s flagship Gruha Jyoti scheme has picked up pace across Ballari district, but technical issues in the newly introduced software have created major hurdles for GESCOM staff carrying out door-to-door surveys.
Officials said the re-verification process, aimed at identifying eligible beneficiaries under the scheme, is being conducted through house-to-house visits by GESCOM personnel. Each staff member has been assigned a daily target of verifying nearly 200 to 300 households, making the task highly demanding.
However, the newly deployed “Gruha Jyoti 2.0” software has reportedly been facing repeated technical glitches, including slow network connectivity and significant delays in data upload. As a result, field staff have been forced to wait for several minutes at each location to complete the digital entry process.
The situation has caused considerable strain on employees engaged in the verification drive. In several areas, including Patel Nagar in Ballari, staff reported that the system failed to function smoothly during on-site data entry, leading to further delays in completing scheduled household checks.
Officials noted that the digital platform, which is central to the re-verification exercise, is currently unstable, affecting the efficiency of field operations. Despite these challenges, the verification work continues as per schedule, with staff attempting to meet their daily targets under difficult conditions.
The Gruha Jyoti scheme, designed to provide electricity subsidies to eligible households, is undergoing this verification process to ensure accurate beneficiary identification and prevent discrepancies. Authorities said efforts are underway to resolve technical issues in the software to improve speed and reliability in the coming days.
