AMSTERDAM
Ryan Cook has stepped down as the head coach of the Netherlands men’s cricket team with immediate effect. The Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) made the shocking announcement recently, ending a highly successful four-year tenure that redefined Dutch cricket on the global stage.
The 41-year-old South African decided to leave the role following the birth of his second child. Cook explained that the intense demands of international coaching required a level of focus he must now shift toward his growing family. In the interim, current batting coach Heino Kuhn will take charge for the upcoming Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures.
Taking over in May 2022, Cook transformed the Netherlands into a fierce, professional unit. Under his visionary guidance, the Dutch side qualified for the 2022 T20 World Cup, securing famous wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa. They also made a historic appearance at the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where they stunned Bangladesh and South Africa yet again. Cook leaves the team in a strong position, currently sitting third in the League 2 standings.
“Coaching this team has been a true highlight of my career,” Cook stated warmly. KNCB Chief Executive Huib van Walsem praised Cook for deeply improving player depth and grassroots cricket. Team captain Scott Edwards also expressed immense gratitude, thanking Cook for building a winning culture. The KNCB will now begin searching for a permanent successor to build upon Cook’s brilliant legacy.
