Indian missions celebrate Yoga Day

Beijing

Indian embassies and missions around the world have begun celebrations ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga, with thousands of people joining yoga sessions and awareness programmes in different countries.

The Indian Embassy in China shared photographs and videos from a large yoga event held in Beijing. Participants of different age groups took part in the session, practicing yoga and meditation while promoting physical and mental well-being. The embassy highlighted the importance of mindfulness, movement and healthy living through yoga.

In Japan, the Indian Embassy announced that International Yoga Day celebrations would be held at the historic Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple. The mission invited residents and yoga enthusiasts to participate and experience the ancient practice that aims to create harmony between the body, mind and soul.

In Oman, Indian Ambassador Prashant Pise invited members of the Indian community and friends of India to attend Yoga Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy. Similar events are being organised by Indian missions in several countries to mark the occasion.

Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Embassy in Nepal, along with the Lumbini Development Trust and the BP Koirala India Nepal Foundation, organised a yoga programme attended by senior officials and hundreds of yoga practitioners.

The Russian Embassy in New Delhi held a yoga session before International Yoga Day, noting yoga’s growing popularity in Russia. Observed globally since 2015 following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal at the UN, this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” promotes active, healthy and independent living for all age groups.
