Everyone must work together to completely eradicate the Devadasi system, a harmful social practice that continues to affect the lives of women, said Vasanti Uppara, General Manager of Karnataka State Women Development Corporation.
She spoke at an interaction meeting with former Devadasi women held at the Koppal Urban Development Authority auditorium on June 8. Addressing the gathering, she described the Devadasi system as a serious social evil that pushes innocent women into hardship and uncertainty. She said the government has enacted strict laws to eliminate the practice and warned that anyone encouraging or forcing women into the system would face legal action.
Vasanti Uppara urged former Devadasi women to immediately inform authorities if they come across any such cases. She said the government had conducted a survey of former Devadasi women and was taking steps to improve their living conditions based on the findings.
