Harry Kane jokes about joining ECB and RCB ahead of World Cup

England football captain rekindles cricket passion with humorous social media post.

London

England football captain Harry Kane has once again displayed his love for cricket, jokingly offering his services to both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The Bayern Munich striker, who has often spoken about his admiration for cricket and Indian batting great Virat Kohli, shared a light-hearted post on social media after participating in a cricket session during England’s World Cup preparations.

As part of team-building activities ahead of the tournament, England’s football squad spent time playing cricket on Tuesday. Kane, among the most enthusiastic participants, was seen batting and enjoying the session with teammates. Later, he posted pictures from the activity on X, accompanied by a caption that quickly caught the attention of fans.

“Always ready if needed, @englandcricket & @RCBTweets! 👀😂,” Kane wrote, playfully suggesting that he could step in for England’s cricket team or the reigning IPL champions if required.

The humorous remark sparked widespread reactions from supporters of both football and cricket. Many fans praised Kane’s sporting spirit, while others joked about how the prolific striker might perform if he switched sports.

Kane’s latest cricket-related post comes shortly after he congratulated RCB on their successful IPL 2026 campaign. The Bengaluru-based franchise retained its title by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final, with Virat Kohli playing a key role in the triumph.

The England captain had earlier taken to social media to praise Kohli and RCB, writing, “What a player and what a knock @virat.kohli! Congrats @royalchallengers.bengaluru on making it back-to-back IPL titles.”

Kane’s admiration for Kohli has been evident over the years, with the football star frequently expressing respect for the Indian cricket icon’s achievements and consistency.

Despite the playful cricket banter, Kane remains focused on leading England at the FIFA World Cup, which begins on June 11. The 32-year-old enters the tournament in outstanding form after a remarkable season with Bayern Munich, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Having also netted five goals in his last five matches for England, Kane will be expected to spearhead his nation’s quest for World Cup glory while continuing to entertain fans with his passion for cricket.
