Bhima River pollution alleged in Afzalpur region

Afzalpur

Villagers and activists have alleged severe pollution of the Bhima River due to discharge of untreated industrial waste and sewage from the Renuka Sugar Factory at Havalga in Afzalpur taluk. The factory, with a capacity of around 6,000 tonnes of sugarcane crushing per day, is accused of releasing contaminated water, chemicals, and waste into the river. Locals claim that overflow from waste storage pits is directly entering the river, affecting water quality and aquatic life. Residents from over 30 villages reportedly depend on the polluted water. Activists warn of health risks like diarrhoea and typhoid and demand strict action against the factory management and enforcement authorities.
