Panchamasali Peetha events stopped to maintain peace

Davanagere

Davanagere district administration has issued a one month prohibitory order at Panchamasali Peetha in Harihar to stop all meetings, ceremonies and press conferences. The step comes after repeated clashes between supporters of Vachanananda Swamiji and the mutt trustees which created tension in the area. Since March 10, gatherings and press talks at the site had turned into disputes, leading to unrest and concern over law and order.

Police said repeated events were creating pressure on security forces and damaging public property in the surrounding area. District officials and police then issued notices to Swamiji, trustees and supporters before enforcing the prohibitory order from May 1 to May 30. Authorities said no meetings, ceremonies or press conferences are allowed during this period to maintain peace and order in the region.

Despite restrictions, supporters of Swamiji attempted to continue their campaign regarding financial accounts and transparency at the mutt premises. They alleged earlier accounts submitted by trustees were unclear and demanded proper disclosure of donations collected from devotees. Supporters also said they would go from village to village listing contributions to ensure transparency in management. Officials warned that any violation of the order would lead to strict legal action and further police intervention if required.

The district administration said the decision was necessary to restore calm and prevent further disruption at the religious site. We appeal to all groups to maintain peace and respect the prohibitory order while avoiding gatherings or speeches that may disturb harmony in the region during the enforcement period and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety and stability in and around Panchamasali Peetha area.
