Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Anand has called for a high-priority shift toward the safety and well-being of pregnant women across the district. During a health review meeting, he mandated the strict implementation of the National Health Mission to ensure no mother or child is left behind.
Dr. Anand directed health officials to ensure that every pregnant woman undergoes 12 to 14 regular check-ups. The goal is the early detection of critical issues like anemia, high blood pressure, and mental health challenges, with all treatments provided free of charge. He emphasized using the Reproductive and Child Health portal to track medical histories and ensure infants receive timely vaccinations during their first year.
A key part of this strategy involves ASHA workers conducting door-to-door visits to identify high-risk pregnancies. “Neglect is not an option,” the DC stated, while also calling for specialized training for grassroots workers on family welfare.
With summer temperatures climbing, Dr. Anand issued a stern warning about heatwaves. He advised pregnant women and vulnerable citizens to avoid heavy outdoor labor and stay hydrated to prevent sunstroke. Beyond maternal care, the DC addressed the rising number of dog bite cases, particularly among children. He ordered all government hospitals to maintain a steady stock of anti-rabies vaccines and launched a public awareness campaign on the issue. By focusing on quality antenatal care and institutional deliveries, the district aims to further reduce infant mortality and build a stronger, healthier community.
