New Bengaluru township to bring massive riches

The newly rebranded Greater Bengaluru Authority township is projected to generate over ₹15,000 crore in surplus for Karnataka’s treasury.

The Karnataka government is eyeing a massive financial windfall from the newly rebranded Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) suburban township. Formerly known as the Bidadi satellite project, this ambitious urban expansion is expected to generate a staggering surplus of over ₹15,000 crore for the state’s treasury.

Official documents reveal that while the project will cost around ₹18,133 crore to build, the government expects to pull in total revenues of ₹33,562 crore. This money will come from selling developed land for industrial and commercial use, with prices expected to hover around ₹2,200 to ₹2,300 per square foot. The plan also includes earnings from property taxes and special building fees.

To make the project a reality, the government is focusing on a fair deal for locals. Landowners who give up their property will receive over 18,000 residential and commercial sites as compensation. After setting aside these plots and mandatory green spaces, nearly half of the 7,814-acre area will be available for the government to develop and sell.

The project has faced over a decade of delays, but officials are now pushing for a fast-track three-year completion goal. They argue that moving quickly is essential to prevent land costs from skyrocketing. With international consultants soon to be hired and major funding secured from banks and local authorities, the GBA township is set to become a primary engine for the city’s growth. The government believes this modern hub will ease pressure on Bengaluru while padding the state’s budget.
