Hollywood legend Meryl Streep has revealed that she personally secured a major superstar cameo for the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2. The 76-year-old Oscar winner shared that a simple, direct phone call to Lady Gaga was all it took to bring the “creative storm” into the high-fashion world of Miranda Priestly.
Streep made the revelation during a recent radio appearance, much to the surprise of her co-star Emily Blunt. Streep explained that she reached out to Gaga while out for dinner, asking her to join the project simply because “it’s going to be really good.” Despite being in the middle of a massive year-long world tour, the 40-year-old singer immediately agreed and flew in to film her scenes.
Director David Frankel confirmed that Gaga will portray a pop star performing during a pivotal sequence set in Milan. Interestingly, the collaboration felt like destiny, Streep and Gaga had recently bonded at the SNL50 celebration, making the outreach much more natural. With Disney’s blessing, Streep took the lead in the negotiations, and the timing worked perfectly as the production was shooting in Italy the same week Gaga was performing there.
Beyond just acting, Gaga has also reportedly written original songs for the film. Emily Blunt praised the singer’s work ethic, calling her a powerhouse addition to the cast. Currently in production, the sequel promises to bring back the original’s sharp wit with a modern, musical twist that fans have awaited for decades.
