Hunsur
A laptop distribution and awareness programme on child marriage and POCSO Act was organised by the Karnataka State Forest-Based Adivasi Development Organization at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bhavan in Hunsur city.
The programme was inaugurated by Additional District Superintendent of Police Mallik and Assistant Conservator of Forests, Hunsur Wildlife Division, Laxmikant.
Addressing the gathering, the Additional SP advised students to use the distributed laptops effectively for education and to build a better future. He also urged them to stay aware of strict legal provisions under the POCSO Act and avoid any activities that could lead to criminal cases. He further encouraged students to strongly oppose child marriage and contribute to social awareness.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Laxmikant said that tribal students should make full use of government support and digital tools like laptops to pursue higher education and improve their livelihoods. He added that educated tribal youth should aim for government jobs and become role models for others in their community.
Officials including Hunsur Deputy SP Ravi, Taluk Executive Officer Hongaiah, Field Education Officer Kalanayaka, and Health Department officers Rajeshwari and Dr. Ravikumar participated in the programme.
Organisers from the Adivasi Development Organization, including Honorary President J.K. Muthamma, Vice President Vitthal, and Secretary B.C. Girish, led the event. Tribal leaders, social workers, farmers’ representatives, and students from various communities were also present.
Speakers stressed the importance of education, digital literacy, and legal awareness in improving the lives of tribal students and preventing social issues like child marriage. The programme aimed to empower students with both technology and knowledge for a stronger and safer future.
