Gadag to celebrate Buddha Jayanti 2026 on May 1

The Gadag district administration, in collaboration with the Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Kannada and Culture, will organize the Buddha Jayanti 2026 celebration on May 1. The event will be held at the auditorium hall of the district administrative building at 11:00 AM.
The district administration of Gadag has announced elaborate arrangements for celebrating Buddha Jayanti 2026 with a formal program scheduled at the district administrative building auditorium. The event is being jointly organized by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Kannada and Culture, aiming to commemorate the teachings and legacy of Lord Buddha.

Several prominent dignitaries are expected to attend the function. Chairman of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti and Minister for Kannada and Culture as well as Backward Classes Welfare, Shivaraj S. Tangadagi, will grace the occasion with their presence. The event will be inaugurated by Dr. H. K. Patil, Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation, and Tourism, who is also the district in-charge minister of Gadag.

A number of key political leaders and officials will participate as chief guests, including Legislative Council Member and Chief Government Whip Saleem Ahmed, Karnataka State Mineral Development Corporation Chairman and Ron MLA G. S. Patil, Haveri Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Member of Parliament P. C. Gaddigoudar, and several other legislators and officials.

Special invitees include senior administrative officers such as Secretary of Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department Ramanadeep Choudhari, and Regional Commissioner of Belagavi Division Janaki K. M. Their presence is expected to add significance to the event.

The program will also feature lectures by retired professor Satish Pasi and headmaster D. H. Parangi, who will speak about the life, teachings, and relevance of Lord Buddha in contemporary society.

District officials, including Deputy Commissioner C. N. Shridhar, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadish, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Durgesh K. R., and Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture Dr. Basavaraj V. Ballari, have extended invitations to the public to attend the celebration.

The event aims to promote the values of peace, compassion, and harmony associated with Lord Buddha while encouraging public participation in cultural and spiritual activities.
