Muslim cleric Maulana Mustafa Kamal Pasha has urged the Congress party high command to immediately withdraw the disciplinary action taken against MLC Abdul Jabbar and Chief Minister’s close aide Naseer Ahmed. He said the two leaders were expelled for allegedly not performing well during the party campaign in the recent Davanagere by-election.
Addressing a press conference at the Press House in Koppal on Tuesday, he said the Congress party should reconsider its decision and restore the expelled leaders. He also criticized the delay in fulfilling the promise of restoring 4% reservation for minorities, saying the assurance made before elections has not been implemented yet.
He added that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been working to strengthen the party and its ideology across the country, and many members of the Muslim community have supported the Congress in forming the government in Karnataka. However, he said the party should ensure justice to minority leaders who contributed to its growth.
He also pointed out that in earlier elections, some leaders were responsible for defeats of minority candidates, but no action was taken against them. He said selective punishment would harm party unity and warned that withdrawal of disciplinary action is necessary to maintain trust within the community.
He further said that the Muslim community lacks strong leadership representation and expelling its leaders will weaken political participation. He urged the party to reinstate the leaders and also fulfill the promise of 4% reservation to regain confidence of the community.
Several community leaders including Maulana Syed Khaza Pasha Tawargera, Qazi Ghulam Hussain Noori, Maulana Jameer Ahmed, and Syed Sadiq attended the press meet and supported the demand for reinstatement and policy implementation.
