Crime branch nabs man wanted in land forgery case

Jeypore

A Crime Branch team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Bijay Mallick has arrested an absconding accused and produced him before a local court in Jeypore. The accused, who had been on the run for several years, was wanted in connection with a land forgery case.

The accused has been identified as Prasanna Kumar Patra, a resident of Jeypore town in Odisha’s Koraput district. According to officials, Patra had been evading arrest for more than eight years after being named in a land forgery case registered in 2018.

A five-member Crime Branch team tracked him down and arrested him before producing him at the Jeypore court. Officials stated that he was wanted in connection with allegedly forging documents, including an order purportedly issued by the Orissa High Court. The forged document was reportedly used to mislead authorities and gain undue advantage in a legal matter related to land.

Investigators revealed that multiple non-bailable warrants had been issued against Patra in connection with various cases. According to the Crime Branch, more than five such warrants are pending, indicating his alleged involvement in multiple offences.

After presenting the accused in court, the Crime Branch team also held discussions with officials at the local police station regarding other cases registered against him. Authorities are now coordinating to gather further details about his alleged activities and connections.

Officials said that the arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, as the accused had managed to remain untraceable for several years. The use of forged court documents has raised serious concerns about attempts to manipulate legal processes for personal gain.

Further investigation is currently underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged forgery and any possible links to additional cases. Police officials indicated that more details may emerge as the probe progresses.
