The outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in Bengaluru’s Hesaraghatta region has now been successfully contained, with authorities confirming that the situation is fully under control. The Karnataka Health Department issued an official statement highlighting the effectiveness of the rapid response and surveillance measures implemented over the past ten days. The infection was first detected on April 14, 2026, at a state-run poultry training center in Mattur village, located in Hesaraghatta on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Following confirmation of the virus, immediate action was initiated by the Department of Health and Family Welfare Karnataka in coordination with the Animal Husbandry Department. Authorities acted swiftly after receiving a report from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal, which confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus.
