Health department issues summer heat advisory warning

KOPPAL

The District Health and Family Welfare Department has issued important advice to the public as temperatures rise in Koppal district. Weather conditions are becoming hot, and officials have urged people to take care of their health, especially pregnant women, children, lactating mothers, and elderly people.

Authorities advised the public to drink plenty of water throughout the day even when not thirsty. They recommended lemon water, buttermilk, and other homemade drinks to stay hydrated during summer. Eating fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and grapes was also suggested for better health.

People are advised to wear light-colored cotton clothes and avoid going out in the sun between noon and 3 pm. Officials said umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses should be used for protection while stepping outside during peak heat hours.

They also warned that if anyone feels faint due to heat, they should be moved to a cool place and given immediate medical attention. Events and meetings should be conducted in the morning or evening, and arrangements for shade and drinking water must be ensured.

The department also advised protecting pets by keeping them in shade and providing enough drinking water. People were further warned not to leave children or animals inside parked vehicles at any time. Officials strongly advised avoiding alcohol, excess tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks as they can cause dehydration. Health officer Dr T Lingaraju said in official release.
