The District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Kannada and Cultural Department, Municipal Council, Basava Jayantyutsava Committee and Basavanuyai Sanghas jointly organized Basava Jayantyutsava at Sri Gavisiddeshwara Mutt premises.
MLA Hemalatha Nayaka inaugurated the event by offering floral tributes to the Basava statue and said Basavanna was a true cultural leader. She also said Basavanna’s life was like an open book and urged people to follow his teachings for a better society and peaceful living. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sidrameshvara said Basavanna’s principles remain relevant today and called for passing his values to the next generation. Scholars V.S. Mali and Dr. Danamma Jhalaki conducted a Basava conference, while Sri Shivashanthaveera Swamiji and other dignitaries were present.
During the event, Basava Karunya Puraskar 2026 was presented to several achievers including Yellamma Bellatti, Indu PU College student Sangeetha Patil, and Dr. G.S. Ashwathakumar for their social service and academic excellence.
A fifth-grade student Ritika Shekhar Ingaladala performed Basava dance, while cultural groups presented vachana music and folk songs. The program also highlighted the importance of Basavanna’s teachings in promoting equality, humanity, and positive thinking among youth. Officials including District administration staff attended the event and emphasized continuing awareness programs on Basavanna’s ideals across the district.
We also heard speakers urging citizens to adopt Basava philosophy in daily life and support social harmony through simple living and shared values. The ceremony concluded with cultural performances and participation of Basava followers from across Koppal district.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all departments and volunteers for making the event meaningful, peaceful, and well coordinated throughout the day. The program ended successfully with harmony and cultural unity message.
