Kalaburagi
The State Cabinet has granted administrative approval for key infrastructure projects in the Kalyana Karnataka region, including the construction of a new administrative building for the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) in Kalaburagi and the repair of the Hattikuni canal system in Yadgir district, said District In-charge Minister Priyank Kharge.
Addressing the media, Kharge stated that a new central office administrative building for KKRTC will be constructed in Kalaburagi at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. The existing building, which was constructed about 58 years ago, has become dilapidated, necessitating the construction of a modern facility. The proposed building will also include a commercial complex, he added.
In another major decision, the Cabinet has approved the detailed project report for the Hattikuni cluster irrigation project in Yadgir district at a cost of ₹72 crore.
Providing details, the minister said the 14-km-long left bank canal of the Hattikuni reservoir was originally constructed in 1973 to provide irrigation to about 5,300 acres of agricultural land across drought-prone villages such as Hattikuni, Yeddalli, Honagera, Bandahalli, Dastarabad, and Mandaragi in Yadgir taluk.
However, due to lack of repairs over the past 53 years, the canal’s water flow capacity has significantly reduced. To address this, the government has decided to undertake restoration works to ensure adequate water supply, particularly benefiting tail-end farmers in villages like Alabur, Badarli, Giniwar, Hartanur, and Vengalapur. The minister emphasized that the project will help improve irrigation efficiency and provide relief to farmers in the region.
