Raichur
Congress Legislative Council member A. Vasanth Kumar has strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged derogatory remarks against AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge. Addressing a press conference at the District Congress office in Raichur on Friday, Vasanth Kumar termed Sarma’s comments against a senior leader “without any blemish” as highly inappropriate and low-level. He stated that Mallikarjun Kharge, who also serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, is among the few senior leaders after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh known for his clean image and dedicated public service. “Such remarks against a leader of his stature are unacceptable,” he said.
Vasanth Kumar further alleged that Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was once in the Congress, has changed after joining the BJP. He accused the BJP of encouraging leaders to make controversial statements, naming individuals like Chakravarthy Sulibele, former MPs Pratap Simha and Anant Kumar Hegde. He asserted that such criticism would not damage the image of the Congress party or its leaders, including Rahul Gandhi. The Congress, he added, will continue its fight against what it termed as anti-people and anti-farmer policies of the government. District Congress President Basavaraj Patil Itagi, along with leaders Murali Yadav, Aslam Pasha, Razak Ustad, Mareppa and others, were present at the press meet.
