BLURB: Medical Education Minister Dr Sharanaprakash R Patil said the government is committed to providing better healthcare services by building super specialty, cancer hospitals and trauma care centres in all districts of the state.

BENGALURU

For the first time in the country, a large, state-of-the-art and well-equipped hospital with 450 beds for children has been built at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Children’s Health, said Medical Education Minister Dr Sharanaprakash R Patil.

Speaking after inaugurating the new hospital, the minister said this hospital has been built to provide good care and treatment to children. This is the first time in the country that such a huge super specialty hospital is being built by the government and is carrying out such a large-scale work. Patients coming from other states are also provided the same treatment here. 100 per cent quality health care is provided only in our government hospitals. He called on the public to make good use of this.

He said that the institute currently has 450 beds and treats about 1,78,000 outpatients and 21,000 inpatients annually. In addition, about 5,000 surgeries are performed.

“The Siddaramaiah-led government is establishing medical colleges in all districts. We have already achieved 90% of the target. Only four or five districts are left. It will be completed everywhere very soon,” he clarified.

“We are committed to providing good healthcare to all by taking steps to build super specialty hospitals, cancer hospitals and trauma care centers in all districts. Like the Jayadeva Heart Institute, a NIMHANS model and an Endocrinology Center will now be established in Mysore and Kalaburagi. Like the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital, a children’s hospital will be built in Kalaburagi at a cost of Rs 100 crore, the Minister explained.

Tertiary care treatment is available only in government hospitals, not elsewhere, our mission is Universal Health Care for All. We have the highest number of medical seats and colleges. In addition, there are 800 nursing colleges in our Karnataka, he said.
