Slug: LPG Shortage
Yadgir
The ongoing shortage of commercial LPG cylinders across the country has started affecting small food businesses in Yadgir, particularly roti centers serving daily wage workers and low-income families.
Over a hundred roti centers in the city are struggling due to the crisis, forcing vendors to raise the price of jola roti by ₹1. A single roti, earlier priced at ₹7, now costs ₹8, adding to the financial burden of common people. Roti makers say the increase is unavoidable because of rising costs and limited availability of commercial cylinders.
Many women, who rely on roti-making as their main source of income, are now compelled either to buy cylinders at higher rates or revert to traditional wood stoves, which require extra time, effort, and money.
In localities such as Lakshmi Nagar and Basaveshwara Nagar, women engaged in roti preparation are facing severe difficulties. Some are spending more on fuel, while others struggle to maintain their earnings as customers react to the higher prices.
The shortage has exposed the vulnerability of small-scale food vendors and rural women entrepreneurs, whose livelihoods depend heavily on affordable and consistent fuel supply.
Residents and roti makers have appealed to authorities to resolve the commercial LPG shortage quickly, urging timely intervention to prevent further hardship. They emphasized the need for proper distribution and support for small businesses that play a vital role in feeding low-income families and sustaining local economies.
With rising costs and limited resources, the situation highlights the critical link between fuel availability and the economic stability of women-led small enterprises in Yadgir.
