Construction of a commuter shelter was delayed as building owners opposed the planned site, despite MLA Hussain suggesting alternatives

MLA H.A. Iqbal Hussain was unable to perform the Bhumi Puja for the construction of a new bus shelter near Aizuru Circle Petrol Station due to opposition from nearby building owners, delaying the project intended to benefit passengers traveling towards Mysuru.
Preparations had been made on Saturday to begin the construction under the Ramanagara Development Authority with a grant of ₹20 lakh. The proposed shelter aimed to provide convenience for commuters, including seating, toilets, and facilities for nearby traders. However, building owners Jayarame Gowda and Harish raised concerns that constructing the shelter at the planned location would interfere with their businesses.
MLA Iqbal Hussain attempted to persuade them by suggesting an alternative location 100 meters back, which would accommodate both public convenience and the building owners’ concerns. Despite his efforts, the Bhumi Puja could not be performed as the owners insisted on preserving their business space according to the authority’s blueprint.
The building owners, when speaking to reporters, clarified that they did not object to the construction of the bus shelter itself and expressed willingness to allow it if it did not disrupt their business operations. They also noted that a slightly shifted location would still serve passengers effectively.
MLA Iqbal Hussain emphasized that the authority’s plan is meant to serve public welfare. “Our responsibility is to provide basic facilities to the passengers. We are working to ensure a well-equipped shelter. The building owners should consider public convenience as well. If they cooperate, we can proceed without affecting their businesses,” he said.
Alternative plans are being considered to accommodate the concerns, including adjustments near Aizuru Circle Signal, Kanakapura Circle, and the Old Bus Stand Circle. The MLA assured that a revised blueprint would be prepared to move the project forward.
Several officials and leaders were present during the event, including Ramanagar Urban Development Authority Chairman A.B. Chethankumar, Guruprasad, Taluk JDS President Sabbakere Sivalingappa, leaders Gooli Kumar, Nagesh, Auditor Ravikumar, Narasimhaiah, Ravi, and Bhairegowda.
The incident highlights the challenges of balancing urban development projects with the interests of local businesses, as authorities seek solutions to serve both commuters and traders.
