Former Karnataka Minister B. Sriramulu issued a strong warning to the police department following the recent stone-pelting incident during the Shivaji Jayanti procession in Bagalkot city.
Speaking to reporters after visiting an injured Hindu activist at a private hospital in the city, Sriramulu alleged that stones and slippers were thrown directly from a mosque during the procession. He claimed that the incident was premeditated and that stones had been collected in advance.
Sriramulu expressed anger over the alleged attack on the Superintendent of Police, stating that a stone had struck the SP and caused bleeding, though officials have not confirmed the extent of the injury.He further questioned the role of the Intelligence Department and accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order. “Law and order has completely collapsed in the state. What is the Intelligence Department doing?” he asked.
The former minister demanded strict action against those responsible, including the arrest of the main accused, identified as Tanveer (A1), and others allegedly involved in the stone-pelting. He also called for action against the mosque president and urged the police to invoke stringent legal provisions against the accused.At the same time, Sriramulu warned the Director General of Police (DG), Inspector General (IG), and Superintendent of Police (SP) not to arrest Hindu activists who participated in the procession.
“If our Hindu activists are arrested, we will be forced to launch a state-level protest against the police,” he cautioned. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and security has been tightened in the area to prevent further tension.
