New Delhi

Gautam Adani announces massive green data centre investment to boost India’s AI leadership ambitions.

Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani has revealed a bold plan to invest $100 billion by 2035 to build green, AI-ready data centres across India. The project, led by the Adani Group, aims to create what it calls India’s sovereign AI backbone and strengthen the country’s role in the fast-growing global artificial intelligence sector.

The group said the direct investment could attract another $150 billion in related sectors over the next decade, including server manufacturing and digital infrastructure. Together, this could help build a $250 billion AI ecosystem in India.

In a regulatory filing, flagship company Adani Enterprises Ltd. said its shares rose up to 2.4 per cent in early trade on Tuesday after the announcement, reflecting positive investor response.

Adani said the world is going through an Intelligence Revolution that is more powerful than past industrial changes. He added that countries able to combine energy strength with computing power will shape the future, and India is in a strong position to lead.

The roadmap expands on AdaniConnex’s existing 2 GW data centre network, which will be scaled up to 5 GW. The group plans to work with Google to build a large AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam. It has also partnered with Microsoft to set up campuses in Noida, Hyderabad and Pune.

Experts say the move could boost India’s digital strength and speed up AI innovation.

A $250-billion AI infra vision

The initiative aims to create a long-term sovereign energy and compute platform to position India as a global leader in the emerging “Intelligence Revolution.” The Group estimates the investment will catalyse an additional $150 billion across server manufacturing, advanced electrical infrastructure, sovereign cloud platforms, and allied industries, creating a projected $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem over the next decade.

Building world’s largest integrated data centre platform

The road map expands on AdaniConnex’s existing 2 GW national data centre footprint, targeting 5 GW of capacity. The platform will integrate renewable power generation, transmission networks and hyperscale AI compute in a unified architecture.
