New Delhi
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has reshaped India’s trade environment at an unprecedented pace.
Speaking to a delegation of the Confederation of All India Traders, led by MP Praveen Khandelwal, at Vanijya Bhawan, he said domestic trade has become stronger while global markets are opening new doors for Indian products. These changes, he noted, are pushing the economy towards faster and more balanced growth.
Goyal highlighted the recently signed interim trade deal framework between India and the United States as a major achievement. The agreement ensures continued preferential access for Indian exports in the vast US market, valued at over 30 trillion dollars. He said such partnerships show India’s growing confidence and credibility in global trade discussions.
The minister also spoke about the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav, to be organised by CAIT from May 1 to 4 at Bharat Mandapam. He said the event supports the Prime Minister’s call to promote Indian goods at home and abroad. The platform will display the strength and potential of India’s trade, industry and services sectors.
Discussions during the meeting focused on promoting Swadeshi products, MSMEs, startups and artisans through digital payments and better market access. Goyal stressed giving special space to entrepreneurs from remote areas. Khandelwal said the four day event will feature about 2,200 stalls and attract nearly 10 lakh visitors, including two lakh business delegates.
He added that strong B2B and B2C networking at the event will help small traders connect with buyers. According to him, these combined efforts will support Make in India and Local to Global goals, improving livelihoods, boosting exports, and ensuring Indian businesses compete confidently in international markets over coming years ahead nationwide sustainably.
