Dr. Choudhary cautioned students that fraudsters on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and short videos often trap young girls using fake friendships, emotional messages, and blackmail

Dr. Nagalakshmi Choudhary, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, told college students that education is the greatest strength for women and the key to a successful and independent life.
She was speaking at an interaction programme with students from across the district, organised by the Women’s Commission along with the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, police department, and Women and Child Development Department.
She said education gives knowledge about the world, rights, duties, and responsibilities. Every girl should focus on studies, avoid distractions, and understand that success comes only through hard work and dedication, not shortcuts.
Dr. Choudhary warned students to be careful while using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and short videos, as fraudsters often trap young girls through fake friendships, emotional messages, and blackmail.
She asked students not to accept requests from strangers and to seek help immediately by calling the cyber helpline 1930, child helpline 1098, or emergency police number 112 if they face online abuse or threats.
Speaking about constitutional rights, she said many women are unaware of the protections and welfare schemes available to them, and encouraged students to learn about government systems and demand facilities when injustice occurs.
Students from different colleges raised issues about missing basic facilities in their areas and campuses, and the Chairperson directed officials present to look into the complaints and take necessary action quickly.
District Collector Dr. Suresh B. Itnal, Zilla Panchayat CEO Varnit Negi, Superintendent of Police Dr. Ram L. Arasiddi, and senior officers from various departments attended the programme along with lecturers and many students. Officials promised follow-up and continued support.
