Demonstrating strong civic responsibility and youth leadership, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), through its Jayantian Extension Service (JES), organized a large-scale Land Cleanliness Drive followed by the Swadeshi Sankalp Run 2026, engaging nearly 1,200 student volunteers in promoting a clean, healthy, and active on Tuesday.
The two-day initiative began with a comprehensive Land Cleanliness Drive in and around K Narayanapura Cross. Nearly 1,200 volunteers from various JES constituent units, including NSS and NCC, participated in the drive, covering a stretch of about five kilometres. Areas such as Kaveri Bakery, Attuteeram, Krishna Vaibhav, Kanti Sweets, Empire Hotel, and K Narayanapura Cross witnessed systematic waste collection, segregation, and disposal, transforming public spaces and spreading awareness on environmental responsibility.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Sudha Swapna Pais, First Joint Commissioner, BBMP, KR Puram Zone. In her address, she stressed that cleanliness should be a way of life rather than a one-time activity and urged students to act as lifelong ambassadors for a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev Fr Dr Lijo P Thomas, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti University, highlighted the university’s commitment to the “Swasth Bengaluru” initiative with the motto Clean Bengaluru, Healthy Bengaluru. He proudly noted the participation of around 1,200 volunteers who collectively worked towards ensuring a cleaner city. Officials from Federal Bank and South Indian Bank, along with university management members, were also present.
As a continuation of the youth-centric initiative, Kristu Jayanti University organized the Swadeshi Sankalp Run 2026 to commemorate National Youth Day and the 164th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Organized by the Centre for Physical Education and Fitness in collaboration with JES, the five-kilometre mini-marathon commenced at 6.45 a.m. from the university’s main gate. The route passed through Narayanapura Cross, Amber Udupi near Gubbi Cross, and Kaveri Bakery Circle before concluding on campus.
Rev Fr Dr Augustine George, Vice-Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti University inaugurated the event, underscoring the role of regular physical activity in shaping disciplined and resilient youth. Adequate safety measures, including hydration points, ribbon checkpoints, and a mobile medical team, ensured smooth conduct of the event.The programme concluded with a valedictory ceremony addressed by A Nagaraja, Deputy Commissioner of Police, City Armed Reserve North, who spoke on the values of fitness, discipline, and service in responsible citizenship.
