Mysuru
The “Fit Mysuru” walkathon, a massive public health and awareness initiative, saw an overwhelming participation of over 12,000 people in the cultural city of Mysuru. Organized with the goal of promoting a fit, healthy, clean, green, and safe Mysuru, the 5 km walkathon was conducted with the support of Mysuru University, Mysuru City Corporation, Mysuru Gym Association, GSS Group, and numerous local organizations.
The organizers had initially targeted 10,000 participants and had pre-registered around 7,000–8,000 people. However, on Sunday morning, students from schools and colleges, yoga enthusiasts, amateur athletes, and citizens of all age groups joined, surpassing expectations and making the event a memorable one.
The walkathon began at the Open-Air Theater of Mysuru University and followed a route through Bogadi Road, Saraswatipuram Fire Station Road, Maharaja College Ground, Krishnaraj Boulevard, Hunsuru Main Road, and Padavarahalli Junction, concluding at the Senate Hall premises. The enthusiastic crowd, waving green flags, walked together to convey the importance of fitness and public health.
District In-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevapppa flagged off the event, emphasizing the initiative’s goal of making Mysuru a healthier and cleaner city. Speaking at the event, he said, “The Fit Mysuru walkathon has been extremely successful, spreading the message that health is paramount, and it’s heartening to see such widespread participation.”
Member of Parliament Sunil Bose also praised the enthusiasm of participants, noting that the response exceeded expectations and highlighted the city’s commitment to becoming greener, cleaner, and more health-conscious.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including MLAs T.S. Srivats, C.N. Manjegowda, Regional Commissioner Nitesh Patil, District Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy, Mysuru City Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, and Police Superintendent Mallikarjun Baldandi, among others, celebrating the city’s collective commitment to fitness and wellbeing.
The event showcased Mysuru’s spirit of community, health awareness, and civic pride, reinforcing the importance of fitness and a sustainable, green urban environment.
