Jatinder Singh to lead revamped Oman squad into challenging T20 World Cup

Oman on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, naming experienced batter Jatinder Singh as captain and wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla as his deputy. The announcement marks a significant moment for Jatinder, who missed out on the 2024 T20 World Cup but now returns as the leader of the national side.
The squad selection features notable changes, including the omission of veteran all-rounder Aamir Kaleem. The 43-year-old had been one of Oman’s standout performers at the T20 Asia Cup earlier this year, but did not find a place in the World Cup-bound team. According to ESPNcricinfo, Oman have made five changes compared to their Asia Cup squad.
All-rounders Wasim Ali, Karan Sonavale and Jay Odedra, along with seamer Shafiq Jan and Jiten Ramanandi, have been added to the squad. Ramanandi, Odedra and Wasim impressed during the T20 World Cup qualifiers, while Shafiq Jan and Sonavale earned their opportunities through strong performances in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament.
Jatinder remains Oman’s most prolific batter in the T20 format and brings valuable leadership experience. His appointment is seen as a move to add stability and batting depth as Oman prepare to face elite opposition on the world stage.
Oman have been drawn in Group B, a challenging pool featuring 2021 champions Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Ireland. The side will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on February 9, hoping to spring surprises against higher-ranked teams.
With a mix of experience and emerging talent, Oman will look to build on their recent progress in associate cricket and make an impact at the global event.
