Gundlupete
The Forest Department on Thursday successfully captured a tiger that had been creating fear among villagers in Bommalapura village of Gundlupete taluk in Chamarajanagar district. The big cat, which was reportedly preying on cattle in the forest fringe areas, was trapped using tamed elephants, bringing a sense of relief and safety to the local residents.
According to forest officials, the tiger had been frequently sighted near Bommalapura and surrounding villages, triggering panic among villagers, especially farmers and cattle rearers. The animal was suspected to be responsible for killing and feeding on livestock, prompting the Forest Department to intensify surveillance and initiate a combing operation in the region.
During the operation, officials traced the tiger to a fallow agricultural land near Bommalapura village, where it had reportedly taken shelter. In response, a coordinated tiger capture operation was launched across Bommalapura and Vadevanapura areas. The Forest Department deployed trained personnel along with experienced tamed elephants to ensure the operation was carried out safely.
Tamed elephants Prashanth, Kanjan, and Mast were used in the operation to locate and corner the tiger. After hours of careful maneuvering and monitoring, the forest team successfully subdued and captured the animal without causing harm to villagers or forest staff. The tiger was later shifted to a secure location for further examination and rehabilitation as per wildlife protocols.
Forest officials said the operation was carried out following standard safety procedures to avoid injury to both humans and the animal. They added that the captured tiger would undergo a health check to determine its condition and future course of action. Villagers in Bommalapura and nearby areas expressed relief following the successful operation, as fear had gripped the region due to repeated sightings and cattle loss.
