The Delhi Police currently has 9,248 vacant posts across ranks from Constable to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Additional DCP, even as the force’s strength stands at 92,044 personnel, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) shared the data with the Rajya Sabha, detailing the sanctioned strength and vacancies as of November 30, 2025.
The breakdown shows 13 vacancies among 60 DCP and Additional DCP posts, while 15 positions remain unfilled in the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) of Additional DCP, against a sanctioned strength of 54 officers. At the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) level, 125 posts are vacant out of 346. Inspector-level vacancies stand at 108 against 1,453 sanctioned posts, and Sub-Inspectors have 1,039 vacancies from 8,087 positions.
Assistant Sub-Inspectors have 300 vacancies out of 7,320 posts, while Head Constables have 3,057 vacancies from 23,724 posts. Among Constables, 4,591 posts remain unfilled out of 50,946 sanctioned positions.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, responding to a question by Trinamool Congress MP Prakash Chik Baraik, said vacancies are dynamic, arising from retirements, promotions, resignations, and other factors. He added that filling posts is an ongoing process, with appointments made following recruitment procedures including written tests, physical trials, and medical examinations.
The data highlights the continuing need for recruitment drives to maintain the operational strength and efficiency of the Delhi Police.
