BENGALURU
In order to effectively manage solid waste in Bengaluru city, the information, education and communication programs undertaken by the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited for public awareness have increased the rate of waste segregation at source and also increased the rate of collection of low-value plastic RDF (Refused Derived Fuel). This is a bold step in solid waste management.
Currently, 350 MT to 400 MT of low-value plastic RDF is being collected daily, said GBA’s Chief Executive Officer Karigowda.
Approximately 100-150 MT of waste is being sent to the waste to energy generation plant near Bidadi.
An agreement has been made to transport 200-250 MT of waste to the Dalmia Cement Limited unit in neighboring Kadapa district, and on Monday, the first day, a total of 160 MT of low-value plastic RDF is being transported.
Dalmia Cement Limited has entered into an agreement with Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited to accept up to 1,000 MT of low-value plastic RDF waste daily.
Dalmia Cement Limited will give Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) credits in the said process to Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited. This will benefit Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited financially.
