New Delhi,
India has emerged as the world’s third most competitive country in artificial intelligence, according to Stanford University’s Global AI Vibrancy Tool, released on Sunday. The ranking shows that India’s rapidly expanding technology ecosystem and strong talent base are helping the country gain global importance in the race to develop advanced AI systems.
Data presented through the Visual Capitalist chart, based on Stanford’s findings, places the United States firmly at the top with a vibrancy score of 78.6. China ranks second with 36.95, while India secures third place with a score of 21.59.
This achievement puts India ahead of several advanced economies, including the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, and South Korea. The AI Vibrancy Tool uses multiple indicators such as research, talent, investment, infrastructure, policy, and public opinion to measure how competitive a nation’s AI environment is. It also highlights how seriously governments are supporting artificial intelligence growth.
The report notes that wealthier nations generally lead AI development, but India stands out as the only lower-middle-income country near the top. India also ranks among the top three globally in AI talent, reflecting its large pool of engineers and developers.
Experts say the ranking signals growing investment, strong research output, and a thriving startup culture. However, the study warns that unequal AI access could widen global inequality if growth remains concentrated among few nations.
For India, the ranking is seen as a major confidence boost for its digital future and innovation-driven economic growth journey. It strengthens India’s position as a key global technology hub in the coming decade and beyond for emerging digital economies worldwide today overall.
