Mohanlal to Play Prithviraj’s Grandfather in Khalifa

The makers of the upcoming Malayalam action thriller Khalifa – The Bloodline have officially confirmed that superstar Mohanlal will be portraying Prithviraj Sukumaran’s grandfather in the film. The veteran actor will be seen as Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, a towering figure whose legacy forms the backbone of the film’s violent narrative. The big reveal was made through a powerful poster shared on social media by both Mohanlal and Prithviraj.

Though Mohanlal’s look has not been revealed yet, the announcement poster hints at the dark and gritty world of the film. A blood-soaked hand holding a cigar, gold biscuits stacked beside a revolver, and the striking line, Before gold… there was blood, set the tone for an intense underworld saga. The makers also confirmed that Khalifa – The Bloodline will be told in two parts — Part 1: The Intro and Part 2: His Reign. The first installment, slated for an Onam 2026 release, will explore the bloody origins of Ahmed Ali and the rise of the Mambarakkal family empire.

Earlier, the teaser revealed police and customs officials tracking gold smuggling networks stretching across Kerala, Nepal, the Middle East and London. Indrans, as Hamsa, warns authorities about the dangerous legacy of Ahmed Ali and his grandson Aamir Ali, played by Prithviraj. The teaser also promised large-scale action set pieces.

Khalifa marks another high-profile collaboration between Mohanlal and Prithviraj after their recent film L2: Empuraan, raising expectations among fans for this ambitious two-part saga.
