Delhi Still Lacks Basic Civic Infrastructure Services

Development issues persist

New Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday criticised previous governments for failing to deliver essential civic services in the national capital. She said that even today, many areas still do not have proper water and sewer lines. Water tankers remain the only main source in several colonies. She stated that after 15 years of Congress and 11 years of AAP rule, basic needs remain unmet for half of the population.
Gupta said that pipeline repair and desilting work have started after 27 years to tackle long pending water issues. She added that Delhi still depends on the 1973 master plan, and no updated system has been created in 50 years.
The Chief Minister also blamed legislators for not focusing on core needs. She said funds were often shown only on documents and not used properly. She insisted that proper planning would ensure enough funds for development works.
Gupta announced beautification work on stretches, including the Ghanta Ghar-Azadpur corridor. The project will include better footpaths, roofing and improved roads. She also said old colonies would be upgraded.
Criticising the previous government’s Mohalla Clinics, Gupta called them more of an advertisement model lacking facilities. She said the newly launched Ayushman Mandirs provide diagnostics, medicines and healthcare under one roof. Over 1,200 such centres have been set up. She also highlighted Jan Aushadhi Kendras that offer medicines at cheaper rates. Gupta promised no shortage of funds for civic improvement.
