Trump, MBS unveil massive investment and defence partnership deals

Trump and Saudi crown prince announce sweeping agreements reshaping bilateral ties

WASHINGTON

President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced a wide set of agreements aimed at deepening strategic ties, boosting American jobs and strengthening regional security. The White House said the deals put American workers, industry and national interests at the centre of the partnership.

A major highlight was Saudi Arabia’s plan to invest USD 1 trillion in the United States, sharply higher than the earlier USD 600 billion pledge. Trump also approved a new defence package that includes future deliveries of F-35 fighter jets and the sale of nearly 300 US-made tanks. Officials said the purchases will support American defence jobs while helping Saudi Arabia build its own military strength.

Both sides also signed a Joint Declaration on Civil Nuclear Energy Cooperation. The agreement ensures US firms will be preferred partners for Saudi nuclear projects, with all work following strict non-proliferation rules. The White House said the long-term cooperation would help secure America’s leadership in global energy technology.

Another agreement was the Critical Minerals Framework, which aims to secure and diversify supply chains for important minerals. An AI Memorandum of Understanding was also signed, giving Saudi Arabia controlled access to advanced American artificial intelligence systems while blocking foreign misuse.

Trump and the crown prince also approved the US-Saudi Strategic Defence Agreement to strengthen defence cooperation and improve regional deterrence. The White House said the deal supports the “America First” agenda by easing operations for US defence firms in Saudi Arabia and adding burden-sharing funds.

During his visit, the crown prince received a ceremonial welcome at the White House. He also expressed interest in joining the Abraham Accords but said progress toward a two-state solution for Palestinians remained essential.
