CHRIST national conclave highlights social impact goals

BENGALURU

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has launched the National Social Conclave 2025, a three-day forum focused on how social sciences can build a stronger and more inclusive nation.

The event, organised by the Centre for East Asian Studies and the School of Social Sciences, gathered policymakers, academics, industry experts, and students for meaningful discussions on social development.

The inaugural session was attended by former Karnataka Chief Secretary Dr. A. Ravindra, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, and CHRIST University Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Jose CC. Opening the event, Dr. N. Manoharan, Director of the Centre for East Asian Studies, said NSC ’25 is the first conclave designed to create knowledge that brings hope, builds skills, and encourages purposeful action.

In his address, Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh spoke about modern policing methods, especially how technology is helping the police handle rising cybercrime. He explained how issues such as traffic, environment, and public safety are closely linked, urging students to study these challenges and offer practical solutions. He added that knowledge, ethics, and empathy must guide the progress of future leaders.

Keynote speaker Dr. A. Ravindra highlighted challenges in healthcare, jobs, and poverty. He called for social science education that focuses on equality and justice, along with stronger skills to help create a welfare-focused society. He also pointed to increasing commercialisation in health and education and stressed the need to protect public welfare.

In his presidential remark, Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Jose CC said the social sciences play a crucial role during major global, technological, and societal changes. He emphasised that progress must remain inclusive and compassionate, and that collaborative research can create real social change.

The conclave will continue with expert discussions, workshops, intergenerational dialogues, and a Social Shark Tank under themes of education, health, well-being, and opportunities.
