Lokayukta raids six sites in Kolar and Chikkaballapur targeting officials, intermediaries for illegal bonafide certificates used in tractor tax evasion
Kolar
In a major anti-corruption operation, Lokayukta officials conducted coordinated raids at six locations across Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. The action targeted government officers and intermediaries allegedly involved in the illegal issuance and misuse of bonafide certificates meant for tax exemptions on tractor purchases. Reports indicated that these certificates, which allow buyers to obtain tax-free tractors and other concessions, were being exploited unlawfully, depriving the government of revenue.
The raids covered five sites within Kolar district and one location in Chintamani, Chikkaballapur. Officials searched the residences and offices of several individuals, including retired Narasapur Deputy Tahsildar S. Narayanaswamy, district office computer operator Ambuja, RTO intermediary Manjunath, Ashwath Narayan, and tractor dealership personnel such as Gokul and M.D. Anjaneya Reddy. Investigators seized documents, computer records, and other evidence to verify the alleged irregularities.
Preliminary investigations suggest that intermediaries and officials had used fraudulent means, including land documents linked to Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, to acquire bonafide certificates. These certificates, intended to facilitate legitimate tax-free tractor purchases, were reportedly exploited to obtain unauthorized financial benefits.
The Lokayukta’s action underscores the ongoing crackdown on corruption and malpractice in government incentive programs, particularly in the agricultural sector. Authorities are continuing to examine records and documents to ascertain the full extent of the scheme and identify all individuals involved. Based on the evidence collected, further legal proceedings and departmental actions are expected, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.
